The TEXAN Envipco group of companies participated as Silver Sponsor in the Economist Impact conference ‘The Sixth Sustainability Summit for South-East Europe & the Mediterranean’ held on 30 November and 1 December 2022 at Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso.
In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the need to redefine the concept of sustainability on a global basis has emerged. In this context, a number of new – and old – questions were discussed.
On the initiative by TEXAN Envipco Group and in the context of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility, this year's conference entitled “Redefining sustainability in an unsustainable world” by the ECONOMIST IMPACT was held on for the 1st time worldwide as ZERO WASTE certified by the international organization Swiss Approval.
In this context, TEXAN Envipco Group practically contributed to showcasing the high importance of recycling and circular economy, ensuring the sound management of all packaging in the conference with:
• Plastic, metal and glass packaging recycling machines for ‘sorting at source’
• Recycling bins for paper, stationery, paper glasses for coffee and tea
• Composting bins for collecting organic residues.
·
THE ECONOMIST IMPACT conference attracted key personalities from the international and domestic politics and business scene, as well as from the academic community. Among the participants were Mr. Kostas Skrekas, Minister for the Environment and Energy, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, Minister for Development and Investment, Mr. Yiannis Plakiotakis, Minister of Shipping, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Costas Karamanlis, Minister for Transport, Mr. George Georgantas, Minister for Rural Development and Foodstuff, Mr. Georgios Amyras, Deputy Minister for Environment and Energy, Mr. Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister of Italy, etc. In the special Gala Dinner organized after the end of the conference, the honorary guest was the Prince Albert II of Monaco.
TEXAN Group was also Silver Sponsor of the conference, while the CEO of the TEXAN Group, Dr. Panagiotis Mourgos participated in a panel on 'Circular Economy and the New Global Environment', discussing inter alia with Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, Minister for Development and Investment.
Dr. Panagiotis Mourgos stated the following:
"As TEXAN Envipco Group we are proud to support the 6th Sustainability Summit by the Economist as Silver Sponsors. We are particularly proud that we are contributing this to be the first Economist conference to be ZERO WASTE. We have installed cutting-edge American technology recycling machines to collect all plastic, aluminum and glass packaging produced during the conference. We have placed separate collection bins to collect the paper produced by the conference's works. At the same time, we have also placed brown bins for collecting bio-waste. So, we really illustrate in this conference that ZERO WASTE approach, the circular economy, is a reality; it is a need, but also an opportunity enabling all of us to easily, consciously participate in this process. (…). There are considerable resources to promote recycling both at the level of the Regions and at the level of Municipalities and central Government. There is therefore a planning that provides all the weapons, all the tools for developing recycling in our country and the results are already visible. In this way, our country becomes a truly good European practice. I must also point out that all this is done with the involvement of society; therefore, social cohesion is a key parameter which all of us, the government, politicians and businesses must take seriously into consideration. We are living in a tough period, an era full of social, political and economic challenges. We, as TEXAN Envipco Group have a major program of social responsibility under way, which will donate €1.000.000 to four pillars: environment, health, education and local communities. Because businesses should really feel the social responsibility and how we could strengthen these efforts. So, all together, State, Government, Businesses, Employees, Social Bodies, we can and must contribute to a sustainable environment and sustainable development in our country and it seems we can do it."
