Educational Recycling School Competition at the Municipality of Thessaloniki

Within the framework of social and environmental awareness programs, TEXAN in cooperation with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, organizes a Educational Recycling Competition for Primary & Secondary Education students of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs & Sports. This initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage active participation of young people, especially students, in the process of recycling.

The Big Educational Recycling Competition for Primary & Secondary Schools of the Municipality of Thessaloniki is open to students at all schools in the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

The competition will take place at the Multi-Purpose Recycling Centers which are installed in various parts of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and will last until Friday, December 15, 2023. 

Students can return for recycling plastic, metal and glass materials (from water, milk, juice, soft drinks etc.).

Terms of Competition

WHERE
In the Multi-Purpose Recycling Centres installed in various locations of the Municipality of Thessaloniki which are presented on the website www.recycling-center.gr.

DURATION
Until Friday, December 15, 2023.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The Big Educational Recycling Competition for Primary & Secondary Schools of the Municipality of Thessaloniki is open to students at all schools in the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

Students of Primary - Secondary Education schools can return for recycling plastic, metal and glass materials (from water, milk, juice, soft drinks etc.) to the sites where the Recycling Centres operate (which are presented on the website www.recycling-center.gr).

At the end of the recycling process of all plastic, metal and glass materials at the Recycling Centers, the participation voucher of the Big Educational Recycling Competition for Primary & Secondary Schools of the Municipality of Thessaloniki is automatically printed.

The students of the Primary & Secondary Education departments gather, collectively as a school department, the participation vouchers of the Big Educational Recycling Competition of Primary & Secondary Schools of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. 

Participation in the competition requires that each school must deliver, on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., to Thessaloniki City Hall, the total number of vouchers it has collected and counted, after having filled in the information indicated. 

The three (3) schools that will recycle most materials (and thus have the highest participation in the recycling process) will win the three (3) big prizes.
 
All the terms of the competition have been submitted to a notary.

PRIZES

The three (3) big gifts - prizes of the Big Educational Competition for the Recycling of primary and Secondary Schools of the Municipality of Thessaloniki are the following:

1st PRIZE*, for the school class with the highest participation:
One (1) 5-day trip for all students of the class to any city in Europe of their choice.
 
2nd PRIZE, for the school class with the second highest participation:    
One (1) Action Camera for all students in the school class.

3rd PRIZE, for the school class with the third highest participation:
One (1) Smartwatch, for all students in the class.

*In the event that the first (1st) school class that collects the most materials is a kindergarten or elementary school, then the 1st PRIZE will be: One (1) Electric Bicycle, for all students in the class.

Please note that the prizes are personal and specific and are not exchangeable for money.

ANNOUNCEMENT
The school classes that will win the three (3) grand prizes of the Municipality of Thessaloniki Grand Prize Competition will be announced on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

NOMINATION OF WINNERS!

The schools that, after counting their vouchers, won the big prizes of the Big Recycling Competition are the following:

• 1^st Rank and the big winner of the competition is the: Experimental School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,A2 Class
  With 63,569 packages
  Prize: 5-day trip with all expenses paid to any city in Europe they choose for all students of the class.
• 2^nd Rank: 1st Model Lower Secondary School of Thessaloniki,B2 class
  With 51,660 packages
  Prize: 1 Action camera for each student in the class
• 3^rd Rank: 19th General Upper Secondary school of Thessaloniki, A1 class With 46,641 packages
  Prize: 1 Smart Watch for each student in the class
• 4^th Rank: 27th General Upper Secondary school of Thessaloniki,A1 class
  With 31,017 packages
  Prize: 1 Headphone for each student in the class

The active participation of children and young people in recycling through the competition organized by TEXAN is the most promising message for the environmental education of the young generation!
